This presentation will summarize the process for conducting case and outbreak investigations of legionellosis in Wisconsin, and how public health partners, other state agencies, the facilities involved, and their consultants work together during and after these investigations.
When designing new buildings or renovations, you should be aware that ASHRAE 188 includes specific requirements in Section 8! This section is frequently overlooked when developing water safety & management plans and also overlooked by designers and engineers! In this presentation we will review the ASHRAE 188 requirements and how your water safety team should plan to address these elements.
Learn about the Veterans Health Administrations experiences with implementing Legionella prevention programs at hundreds of healthcare buildings across the country, including a description of the national policy (VHA Directive 1061) and practical lessons from program implementation.
Learn about the risks of infection from plumbing fixtures in the healthcare environment and methods of preventing these infections. Surveillance methods for waterborne-healthcare-acquired infections will also be presented.
Dr. Prevost will first present the results of several recommissioning case studies showing that not all buildings are contaminated with Legionella after extended stagnation and that other OPPs should be considered. Then she will show findings from a detailed intervention study to measure the impact of dally, weekly and monthly flushing and shook chlorination on the prevalence and concentrations on Legionella pneumophilia in a heavily contaminated large building.
Get an overview of the CDC’s Legionella Control Toolkit. Released in January 2021, the toolkit provides information in controlling Legionella in the most common water sources implicated in outbreaks: potable water, cooling towers, hot tubs, decorative fountains, and other devices.
